I had a few scraps of wood laying around from previous projects so I decided to tackle a quick easy and almost free build. I ended up ripping a little bit off one board because I wanted my top to be just 13 wide instead of the 14-12 width thats written in the plans. The first step of the project is to build the sides of the lap desk.
Step 1 Lay the Desk Top on a flat surface and attach the front back and side aprons using wood glue. Slip the pillows inside the pocket you just created. Measure your laptop and cut the following from plywood.
If you are using raw fabric fold your fabric along the side so you dont have a raw edge. Four pieces of solid wood. As you can see in the image we recommend you to use 22 lumber for the components.
Fold under to create a finished edge and add a staple in the center. Everything else wood screws nails glue stain I had on-hand. Two pieces of plywood that are the thickness of your laptop plus two inches and the width of your laptop plus two inches.
Note if you plan to stain the desk be careful with any access glue as the stain will not absorb to these areas once the glue has dried. For the top I joined two pieces of the board using biscuit joints. It took less than 2 hours to construct and the only purchase I made for this project was a package of 2 standard hinges for 2 bucks.
